The health crisis started on 2020 with COVID-19 Pandemic, has stopped or paused various activities, due to the continuous lockdowns in Greece and worldwide.
These lockdowns have led to some environmental improvement such us better air quality and lower carbon emissions, but they are temporary and coupled with a surge in Single-use plastic, the European Environment Agency said at the end of 2020.
“The upsurge in demand for these items may challenge EU efforts to curb plastic pollution and move towards sustainable and circular plastic systems”.
During 2020 coronavirus restrictions we were not able to organize large clean-ups or workshops and seminars, however, we participated individually in the new movement “Save your hood”, which call for action every citizen to participate by cleaning up his hood. We have been actively participated in over 10 clean ups in Athens and Crete, and we are part of the main coordination team of Save your hood in Greece.
In all clean ups, all safety precautions have been implemented, people were categorized in group of 2, wearing masks and keeping social distancing.
We participated in the following clean ups: Heraklion (Crete), Xolargos, Pallini, Ymittos, Tourkovounia, Filopappou, Ilioupoli, Schinias, Zografou and Neos Kosmos.
We can be part of this change, even during this dark times, we may not forget the environment as we cannot exist with out it!
